Hey friends! I have some great news. Today, Thursday, September 28, 2017, is National Drink Beer Day. It’s also National Maritime Day. Could that have worked out any better? It’s the perfect day to rev up that motor, throw a six-pack of your favorite beer in a cooler, and head out onto the water.
The Pacific Northwest is known for its breweries and craft beers. There are over 275 breweries in Washington State alone! Let’s take a look at some of the most well liked locally brewed beers, and maybe you’ll want to try something new on your boat today!
- Elysian Immortal IPA (6.3%)
Elysian is one of Washington’s favorite and most creative breweries. They have been brewing over 350 different craft beers since their inception in 1996. The IPA is quickly becoming one of the country’s favorite craft beers, so why not give this one a try?
- Two Beers Brewing Company Cold Brew Coffee Brown Ale (5.2%)
What says Seattle more than craft beer and coffee? Nothing! This Cold Brew Coffee Brown Ale is a chocolatey brown ale made with roasted coffee beans from the local Anchorhead Coffee. Check out this kind as well as the 12 different beers brewed regularly at Two Beers Brewing Company.
- Big Block Raspberry Blonde (5.2%)
Big Block, started in 2012 in Sammamish, doesn’t mess around with their Raspberry Blonde. It is made with real, local raspberries—not some sugary syrup. It isn’t a sweet beer, but you will get a nice fruity flavor when drinking this light brew. Check out all of their other options, too, because, as Big Block says, “our key focus, of course, is making a beer that does not suck.”
- Fremont Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Star (11%)
This Oatmeal Stout is aged in 15-year-old Kentucky bourbon barrels. This beer is quite limited in stock, so it may be hard to find, but it is worth the hunt. Fremont Brewing was founded in 2009 and is one of Seattle’s favorite breweries. Even if you miss the Dark Star, they have plenty of other delicious options to choose from.
- Manny’s Pale Ale (5.4%)
We all know and love Seattle’s Georgetown Brewing Company, right? Well this pale ale is one of the best and most enjoyed beers they make. This Darn Tasty Pale Ale is made with Northwest hops, premium barley, and yeast. It has a smooth and crisp taste with notions of citrus and fruit. Georgetown Brewing Company was founded in 2002 and, well, you really should just go read their history on their website. It’s hilarious.
So, now that you have five different beers to try on National Drink Beer Day, spray out that cooler (or your on-board refrigerator), pack up some snacks, and have an amazing time on the water. Remember, though, don’t drive while intoxicated and be safe!
